The love-affair and obsession with Pinot Noir for George Mihaly [winemaker] and Ruth Mihaly [viticulturist] drew them to start their tiny 4.2 acres vineyard at Merricks on the Mornington Peninsula in late 1999. Their intensely hands on involvement and adherence to traditional low croping vitculture has ensured a consistent expression of terroir off this high ferrous, basaltic duplex loam/clay site.
The 2013 season presented with ideal ripening conditions and with the help of family and friends, they harvested delicious pristine fruit. The more "masculine" character for L'ami sage is expressed as an amazing concentration and intensity of flavours with an abundance of fine tannin structure. Together, these build on and generously embrace the palate producing a delightful, long balanced finish.
