Penley Estate are making merlot cool again! A modern icon of South Australian winemaking, Penley Estate was born of a marriage between the Tolley and Penfolds winemaking dynasties. Their merlot is juicy, slurpy, and bursting with medium-bodied blood-plum fruit, rated 95 points by the Halliday Wine Companion. Bleasdale have been making wine in Langhorne Creek since 1850, this year they celebrate their 175-year anniversary. Malbec is a particular speciality of Bleasdale, and their Generations series celebrates their long history in the region. Redolent of black fruit, earth and spicy cedar, it’s rated 96 points by the Halliday Wine Companion.

Three parcels of merlot have come together to create this modern blend. One fermented in a concrete egg, one as 100 % whole bunch and the final in an open top fermenter. Each piece of the puzzle bringing its own personality to the wine.  Aged together in seasoned French oak puncheons for 3 months. Made by the  award winning team at Penley, what’s not to love.

Flametree Cabernet Merlot 2020

The 2020 Flametree Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot is very aromatic, showing mulberry, plum and cassis together with dark chocolate notes. The palate shows ripe, fleshy varietal cabernet fruit characters finishing with fine, soft tannins.

A juicy, characterful case of top James Halliday-rated wines made from merlot, with and without its best mate cabernet sauvignon. Mount Eyre Merlot Three Ponds 2021

Our first merlot since 2018, as drought and bushfires precluded making this wine in 2019 and 2020. Open fermentation then maturation in French oak.
