The 2017 Heirloom Coonawarra Cabernet offers aromas of mint, blueberry and tomato vine. There's capsicum, black olive, clove and raw beetroot with pure primary fruit followed by a refined oak spice bouquet, just poking through. This red wine is all about an acid line. From mid-palate to back-palate it is firm and clean. The front-palate is, on the other hand, a powerful, manly, operatic display that offers a clear libretto of cabernets true flavours: blackberry to plum, eucalyptus to stewed rhubarb. The back-palate ushers in rolling and very fine textural tannins that hone the fruit flavours more towards the savoury, the dark, the meaty.
