Known as the King of the Bootleggers, George Remus was a Cincinnati lawyer and pharmacist who created one of the most successful bootlegging operations during US Prohibition 1920 up to 1933. Serving as a pharmacist in the 1920s, Remus soon realised that this medicinal spirit could have much wider appeal. At this peak Remus owned many of Americas most famous distilleries and became a multi millionaire before losing it all. It is said the character of George Remus inspired the notorious character of Jay Gatsby from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
