We wanted to do something different with our Grenache, Shiraz blend. Being of Italian heritage, adding Sagrantino seemed like a no-brainer and we hadn't heard of a GSS blend before. When blended together, though, these opposites provide a great foil for each other, creating a complex and intriguing wine. The perfect entertainment and food wine for any occasion.
AWARDS:
"Gorgeously ripe and tremendously expressive, the wine shows sweet plum, spiced cherry, vanilla, white pepper and cedar characters on the nose, followed by a wonderfully weighted palate that’s plump and silky. It’s richly composed and styled, offering terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2030. At its best: now to 2032."
"It's an unusual blend, but it absolutely sings thanks to a combination of plush fruit from grenache and shiraz with a rustic flair for sagrantino. The wine is deeply coloured and flavoured with expressive fruits – blackberry, baked earth and dark cherries, all well integrated with sweet oak. The palate is then full-bodied and power-packed; luscious fruit kept in check by leathery complexity and a slight acid kick before a long and supple finish. Great drink now and over the next five years or so."
"Grenache, shiraz, sagrantino. This is good. Taking advantage of the arsenal of tannin) imparted by the smidgeon of sagrantino (6%) in the blend) raspberry bon-bon, root spice, violet and briar are fuelled by a core of 62% grenache, the rest shiraz. The extraction is
perfect, facilitating a pulpy flow; the reductive handling is just right, imbuing tension. Very good drinking attests to a fine evolution of the style."
