Chris “Hatch” Hatcher was a highly awarded corporate winemaker for almost 50 years and then in November 2023 released his own wines under the HATCH label. Watervale, a sub-region of Clare Valley is one of the Australia’s classic regions for Riesling. At 390-400metres above sea level the high altitude and cooling breezes from Gulf St Vincent gives a long ripening period that is essential for making high quality Riesling. Vintage 2023 produced riesling fruit with great depth of flavour and wonderful natural acidity. The palate has powerful fruit intensity and finesse with fine acidity that is delicious now but will reward with medium to long-term cellaring. Enjoy with fresh oysters, prawns, seared scallops, salt and pepper squid and delicate Asian dishes or simply with your friends on a wonderful summer’s day.
