Wirra Wirra The Absconder Grenache 2022

Absconder Grenache is made from a vineyard planted in the time of Wirra Wirra’s founder Robert Strangways Wigley. Wigley was an eccentric whose lust for life had at times seen him fall foul of the law in his home town. In fact, one episode involving the ‘acquisition’ of the famous Adelaide pie-cart and a joy ride through the city streets was the catalyst for banishment to McLaren Vale. However Wigley did not abscond into the wilderness. He became known for his world class wines - including fortifieds made with the grenache of the day - and helped to build the reputation of McLaren Vale.

Wirra Wirra Catapult Shiraz 2022

The late Greg Trott saw many of his unusual dreams realised at Wirra Wirra. Yet one vision eluded him - to build a medieval siege machine, or trebuchet. Why? To use as a catapult to bomb neighbouring  wineries with bottles of wine of course. This wine is part of a range, the RGT collection which remembers the pioneering spirit of Richard Gregory Trott.

Wirra Wirra Woodhenge Shiraz 2022

Woodhenge is a monument to ‘big’ ideas and to Greg Trott’s unique vision of what makes Wirra Wirra special and well, a bloody big fence that weighs about 10 tonnes. This wine is a tribute to the region, the grape variety and the foresight of a wine man that, like Woodhenge, typifies the individuality of McLaren Vale.

Wirra Wirra Original Blend Grenache Shiraz 2023

In 1972, cousins Greg and Roger Trott produced a dry red wine from grapes grown on Greg’s vineyard adjacent to the small Bethany Chapel opposite Wirra Wirra. This blend of grenache and shiraz became the first ‘Church Block’. Taking on advice from friends and mentors, Trott evolved Church Block over the years to its popular signature blend of cabernet sauvignon, shiraz and merlot. Yet still there were those who bemoaned the loss of the original blend of grenache and shiraz. So at various times over the years, when the planets have aligned, we have re-created the grenache shiraz offering and released it under the imaginatively titled ‘Original Blend’ moniker. With a look and feel harking back to simpler times, this latest release of Original Blend Grenache Shiraz is limited in number, but not imagination.

Wirra Wirra Dry Grenache Rose 2025

Grenache is one of the heritage grape varieties of McLaren Vale, grown in the region since the mid 1800s. With plump berries, thin skins and lovely red fruit flavours,  grenache is an ideal variety for making a stylish dry rose with personality
