Amisfield was established in 1988 and is a Central Otago based specialist producer of Pinot Noir and aromatic white wines, sourced from fruit grown on their Single Vineyard Estate, situated beneath the glacially sculptured Pisa mountain range. Vineyards are managed holistically through organic practices focused around nurturing Amisfield’s unique soils, vines and habitats - this combined with a rugged inland location and an extreme semi- continental climate, yields wines of remarkable purity, intensity and vibrancy.A state-of-the-art purpose-built winery is the focal point of the vineyard and is designed to enable winemakers to craft wines with minimal intervention and as naturally as possible. At Amisfield they are committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility at every step of the process. The vineyard is now managed entirely organically and is in conversion to full organic certification with New Zealand’s leading organic certification body BioGro. Bright, vibrant, fresh aromatics are complimented by texture and depth on the palate with a mineral finish. Highly aromatic nose with passionfruit, green pineapple, lime and elderflower notes. The palate drives on punchy acidity, matched with intense tropical fruit flavours. A juicy, energetic wine.

Palate

Set against the backdrop of the majestic Pisa mountain range, Amisfield is one of the largest single estate vineyards in Central Otago. Spurred on by fond memories of childhood holidays in Central Otago, Amisfield founder John Darby was determined to master this breath-taking yet often unforgiving high country, convinced that this dramatic landscape presented the perfect environment for cool-climate viticulture. After an exhaustive search he discovered Amisfield Farm, formerly a merino sheep station. The first vines were planted in 1999 and they continue to thrive in this continental climate with its cold winters, hot summers and low rainfall. We recently completed the 5 year process of converting all of our vines to organic viticulture and were named as Organic Vineyard of the Year 2020 as part of that process. Our simple philosophy is to nurture nature at every step and our hands-off approach means that our process takes time, with our wines yielding exceptional purity, intensity and vibrancy.
