For many years the reeds growing around Langhorne Creek were sourced for use in woodwind instruments; Oboe, Clarinets, Saxophones etc. The Reed Patch vineyard has many of these reeds persisting in and around the vineyard. The block was planted in 2012 with cuttings supplied from the Clare Valley, believed to have originated from Wendouree. The block lies between our Powder Monkey vineyard and a flood bank behind the cellars, a pocket of drier ground, this only receives floodwater in the largest of floods.
The majestic red gums that surround Bleasdale are at the core of our remarkable history. When Frank Potts settled the land in the 1850s, he used the timber from these big, beautiful trees to build our winery. Our vineyards benefit from the rich, clay soils that also support these gums, giving generosity and longevity to our wines. The growth rings reflect the multitude of stories from past seasons and generations of family and growers alike.

This comes with a duty also not to disrupt the flow of water to users downstream, so he built a weir to block off and control the river. Those were the days…

This vineyard is adjacent to the Mullianna wetland, on the Bremer River, about 2km downstream of the winery. The vineyard was planted in 2006 to Potts’ selection and like many of the red grapes grown at this site, produces rich, balanced wines with moderate alcohol and a seamless palate.
