Chris “Hatch” Hatcher was a highly awarded corporate winemaker for almost 50 years and then in November 2023 released his own wines under the HATCH label. St Johns is one of the highest regions in the Barossa Valley. It borders the sub-regions of Ebenezer, Koonunga and Moppa. In 2022 it produced intense and concentrated shiraz with great aromatics of plum and dark cherry, the tannins are plush and balanced with seductive oak.

”Shiraz sourced from St Johns at the northern extremity of the Barossa Valley. A very deeply coloured wine with rich aromas of macerated blood plums, blackberry, black cherry and cassis. Hints of baking spice, licorice, Christmas cake, Old Jamaican chocolate, olive tapenade, herbs and pastis. Great fruit density with a sandy tannin grip and a real sense of compression and latent power, finishing inky with graphite-edged black fruits and plenty of grunt.”
