Chris “Hatch” Hatcher was a highly awarded corporate winemaker for almost 50 years and then in November 2023 released his own wines under the HATCH label. In 2022 McLaren Vale, one of Australia’s best regions for shiraz, produced fruit with great depth and richness. Several vineyards were used to make this wine, so Hatch named it after his great-grandfather, Alf Vesey who made wine at the Penfolds Magill winery for 69 years starting in 1883. He was the Master Winemaker for 47 of those years and famously mentored Max Schubert, the creator of Grange, on winemaking and the art of blending. The palate is plush, opulent and velvety.
