Paul Byron and Harold (Ralph) Dunning have worked with wine for the best part of 65 years combined, and have the knowledge experience and relationships to be able to source the very best parcels of fruit from the most dedicated growers in the Great Southern region of Western Australia.
This single estate wine is blended from a number of different parcels that were harvested and fermented individually at optimum ripeness, then aged separately for 18 months in new and one-year old American oak barrels prior to final barrel selection and blending. This wine is a true reflection of the excellent terroir of this special vineyard site to produce classic, richly flavoured Barossa Valley shiraz.
Forest Hill Vineyard is not only the oldest cool climate vineyard in Western Australia, but also planted on one of the Mt Barker regions first farms. Settled in the 1840’s, Highbury Fields is a site of historical agricultural significance in the Great Southern, which over the past century has been farmed for apples, dairy, grains, lamb and wool. Purchased over 15 years ago, the Highbury Fields property is today producing exceptional fruit with the dry-grown vineyards occupying the best soils on this historic property.
This is the second release of a grenache shiraz blend and is only made in exceptional grenache vintages. The 2018 Grenache Shiraz offers aromas of violets, black cherries, signature McLaren-Vale blackberries, roasted nuts, marzipan, baked spice buns, rhubarb, pomegranate and Turkish delight. The palate is harmonious, silky and perfectly weighted. The tannins have a beautiful shape and build that isn't a smack in the face but rather seduces and makes you think.
A single vineyard wine displaying unique elegant and rich fruit flavours. Twenty-four months in new French oak provides perfume, spice and balance to the wine, which is dominated by dark red cherries, plums and red berry aromas and flavours
A generously dense, nonetheless, balanced Shiraz with complex spice and floral flavours typical of the Blewitt Springs sub region
From the oldest vines on Ulithorne’s estate vineyard comes this dark and deep Vale shiraz. Great drainage in the sand-over-clay soil sets the stage for excellent concentration of flavour, presenting as blackberry, cherry, plum and spice. Twenty months in a mix of new and seasoned French oak rounds out the package with fine-grained tannins and a subtle cedary influence on the back palate. This is classic Vale old vine shiraz, inky and smooth, deep and complex.
Located within the ‘Old Town’ of Coonawarra this one-acre shiraz vineyard was planted in the early 1950’s. The combination of old-vines, terroir and careful hand-tending produces a wine with a distinguished sense of place and style. Despite its age, the ‘House Block’ vineyard, located within the township of Coonawarra continues to flourish with deep roots reaching through the terra rossa and limestone to the pure aquifer below.
The Lange family is a fifth-generation farming family of Western Australia. Connecting Bridgetown and Mount Barker, the T.S.R. travels through the Lange’s property to make use of two major watering holes along the way – vital to the welfare of the animals and their drovers who were making the long journey. Enjoy this wine after a long day at work, and you’ll find it just as welcoming and refreshing as the drovers.
Single vineyard premium shiraz aged in French and American oak for 18 months
This 2-acre vineyard was planted in 1920 in the foothills of Willunga. The soils are deep, gravelly loams and this block shows beautiful old vine complexity with a suppleness of the rich Willunga soils.
Medium bodied with generous fruit weight makes this wine oh-so drinkable.
