Leconfield Coonawarra was established by noted oenologist Sydney Hamilton (1898-1987) when in 1974, at an age of 76 years, he selected 30 ha of fine ‘Terra Rossa’ country in the southern half of the Coonawarra strip. This plot comprised some of the area’s richest Terra Rossa soil over limestone, a composition for which Coonawarra is famous. Single batch, single vineyard. The 2022 Leconfield Coonawarra Cabernet Franc shows an earthy complexity with a touch of dried sage. Oak plays a subtle understatement to the fragrance of the fruit. With a round, long, textured palate that is persistent, elegant, silky and creamy.
A near-perfect Hills vintage for 2021 with excellent rainfall in Spring and any summer showers dispersed by subsequent mild breezes. The winds prevented any disease pressure and the mild Spring provided good conditions for flowering early. Cooler temperatures prevailed throughout and as yield was above average. From veraison through to harvest, the vineyard experienced below average, yet relatively dry temps, ensuring a very long ripening period resulting in exceptionally complex fruit flavour.
Nero d'Avola is without question one of the jewels in the Sicilian winemaking crown, and is found growing between the smoldering volcano of Mount Etna and the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. It thrives in warm conditions, much like the coastal region of McLaren Vale. It shows an impressive ability to retain fresh acidity while producing generous dark fruits.
This wine possesses a beautifully complex, aromatic nose of violets, wild cherry, rosemary and warming spice. The palate is energetic yet polished and smooth with vibrant cherry, spice, wild strawberry and liquorice on the palate. Medium bodied but multi-layered and textural with a very long, aromatic finish.
The Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon offers aromas of dark cherry and lavender imbued with underlying dried mint. Initially the palate is soft and round, but a fine tannin framework provides structure and length on the palate.
The Giant Steps Yarra Valley Syrah Carignan Grenache 2019 offers peppery, Dark plum and red berry aromas on the nose. This wine is balanced with soft tannins and refreshing acidity. Hand Picked Syrah, Carignan & Grenache from the Tarraford and Sexton Vineyards. Our take on a Rhone style blend.
