Pertaringa named this wine, Stage Left Merlot, as the variety has never been centre stage in the vineyard theatre of McLaren Vale. They, however believe that it should be enjoyed for its unique interpretation of the beloved Bordeaux variety. Beautifully soft aromas of plums, mint and spice. A succulent and rounded palate with darker fruits, chocolate and spice, followed by fine-grained tannins.

”I loved the 2021 version of this wine, so was keen to see if this latest incarnation could match it. It does that and more. Named ‘Stage Left’, as Merlot is seen as a variety which has never enjoyed centre stage in the region, it always reminds me of the old Shakespearean stage direction, “exit, pursued by a bear”. For some reason, if one may digress, I always thought it was “exit stage left, pursued by a bear”. Apparently not. One learns things every day. And what this wine teaches us is that Merlot perhaps deserves a bigger role in the region. Vibrant garnet, the aroma weaves through plums, raisin cake, chocolate, mocha and plum pudding. Delicious, a cracking Merlot. ”
