The last Shiraz block left standing at our Olivers Road home. Named for the original owners of the property, the Merrivale block was planted in 1970 and, unusually, runs East West. The orientation leads to less stress with balanced ripeness achieved at lower baumes. The ironstone rich soils contribute to the structure and allows us to leave the wine unadulterated. What weve learnt from working with varieties like Aglianico is to simplify and work with varieties that cope with our climate. Shiraz has a place here too but its time to treat it differently. This is our attempt to reclaim Australian Shiraz grown in a warm climate.

Grape Variety

McLaren Vale

Wine Style

Red - juicy, smooth, medium-bodied

Cool, juicy and alive with red fruit flavour, fine and lacey tannins

Food Pairing

Beef fillet and roasted caramelised root vegetables

”A single-vineyard expression from the original owner (Merivale)'s home block, planted in the '70s. A lustrous crimson. Elevated aromas of boysenberry, clove, nori and Christmas cake are slung over a carriage of finely wrought spicy tannins, firm enough to engage the food at hand, while being juicy enough to chew. Finishes long, precise, fresh and sappy, marked by a ferrous burr that augurs well for cellaring.”
