The 2019 Spinifex Bete Noir offers a medium to full flavoured palate with flavours that range through plum, spice and wood. This is a great Bête Noir, with Schell's reputation as a master-blender clearly on show. From a vintage that was significantly lower-yielding than 2019, it shines with old-vine intensity, yet it's also surprisingly fleet of foot with dense and silky dark fruits encased in a web of fine tannins tempered by lingering freshness.
”From 70yo shiraz vines, whole-berries and bunches, wild-yeast fermented in wooden vats, up to 20 days on skins, thence French oak maturation. It's elegant yet powerful, with ripe blackberry, licorice and a touch of plum. However long you wait, it will be there waiting for you. Bargain.”
