The Salento Peninsula is the “heel” of Italy’s famous boot with two sea masses on either side – the Adriatic to the east and the Ionian Sea to the west. It’s worthwhile noting this while tasting this wine, together with the role of the area’s limestone in playing a part in the medium bodied brightness of the wine. Blue fruits mix with black and red cherries, ripe and rich, which form the basis of the wine joined by a host of attractive spices. It’s a fine textured wine, keenly varietal in nature but not over-indulging in either the ripeness of the fruit or the oak, instead delivering a well-balanced, vibrant, wine.”
