Dandelion Red Queen of Eden Valley Shiraz 2019

Our Winemaker Elena Brooks crowned Colin Kroehn's Eden Valley Shiraz vineyard as our Red Queen. Its age, altitude, aspect and slopes are the key. Colin tended his beloved Shiraz vines for most of his life's 90 years and our Red Queen is made entirely of his vineyard. Planted in 1912, on a south facing slope of limestone bed rock covered with loamy sands absolutely laden with quartzite, the vineyard survives to this day. The rocky outcrops of quartz are spectacularly coloured with ironstone streaks, and sit over a c.1600 million year old Barossa Complex basement of gneiss and schist. On March 31st whole bunches of flavour ripe Shiraz were hand harvested, then we gently crushed two thirds of the grapes over a third of whole bunch fruit and naturally fermented in open fermenters for eleven days, hand plunged three times a day, before careful basket pressing into half new and half one year old French Oak Barriques to finish fermentation.  After two and a half years maturation and a racking in the same oak, we bottled this eleventh vintage of Red Queen without filtration or fining, to capture the essence of the vineyard. Dandelion Vineyard’s Red Queen will reward cellaring and decanting. Thank you Mr. Kroehn for this legacy.

Alkina Stonefire Shiraz 2024

‘Stonefire’ is a tribute to the mother rock sitting underneath the Alkina Estate vineyard. The Barossa’s Western Ridge features a lot of the metamorphic rock, schist, which you also famously find in the Rhone Valley, Priorat, Central Otago and South Africa. Alkina thinks of it as a ‘fire’ rock with the capacity to bring great energy to a wine but also heat if not carefully managed in the vineyard and winery. Grey blue in colour, in certain parts of their vineyard, it has degraded naturally and mixed with iron oxide to leave a firey-red clay. A perfect balance of layered ripe fruit flavours from the excellent 2024 season combined with the textural, savoury and mineral qualities that Alkina is known for. Stonefire Shiraz is made exclusively for Qantas Wine customers.

Torbreck Hillside Vineyard Shiraz Roussanne 2023

Due to Torbreck's success in co-fermenting shiraz and viognier, they thought it would be interesting to co-ferment the skins from roussanne with shiraz. They selected a shiraz vineyard in Lyndoch, SA that gave them the perfect structure and purity of fruit to balance the aromatics of the roussanne. Once the juice was gently whole bunch pressed from the roussanne grapes, the skins were added to the shiraz and co-fermented. The resulting wine is as unique as it is intense; beautifully lifted and balanced and surprisingly distinctive.

Cimicky Cellar Selection Barossa Shiraz 2021

The Cimicky Cellar Selection exemplifies the traditional fruit-forward Barossa style shiraz. The aroma displays lifted ground spice, prunes, plum, leather and chocolate. The palate is lush and juicy. 26 months in oak gives lots of roast nut, vanilla flavour and soft sweet tannins. The wine is also matured more than 12 months in bottle before it's released which produces softer, plusher texture in the wine.
