Pio Cesare Barolo DOCG 2019

Pio Cesare have been making wines in their ancient cellars in central Alba for 141 years, from their vineyards based primarily in Barolo and Barbaresco. Today, fifth generation Federica Boffa with her cousin Cesare Benvenuto lead this prestigious estate, after the untimely passing of Pio Boffa in 2021 after 40 years as the face of Pio Cesare. The winegrowing is sustainable and the winemaking largely traditional resulting in wines of great elegance, structure and purity.

Brokenwood Cricket Pitch Red 2022

There are leafy berry aromas are to the fore, due to the wine being majority cabernet sauvignon. A lovely mid-depth colour with youthful tints. Ripe cabernet fruit complimented by the spice and plushness of the shiraz component. Fine long tannins and acid line will see this age well over the medium term. A lovely drinking wine as always.

This Barolo has a special value for their family and represents the history and tradition of blending different cru of Barolo. This Barolo comes from the best plots of seven cru. The diversity of soils, exposure and altitude characterizes each of these small but very important terroir. Unifying these diversities, the Barolo offers harmony and complexity with an overall character of the zone.

The Mottura Primitivo del Salento offers intense aromas of ripe red fruit, cherry, cranberry vanilla and aromatic herbs. This wine showcases strong character with extremely prolonged and pleasant tannins. Wonderful for sharing a meal with friends.

Longview Fresco 2022

A near-perfect Hills vintage with excellent rainfall in spring and no summer showers dispersed by subsequent mild breezes. The winds prevented any disease pressure and the mild Spring provided good conditions for flowering early. Cooler temperatures prevailed throughout and as yield was above average, increased wire-lifting and leaf-plucking were implemented; exposing the fruit zone to enhanced ripening. From veraison through to harvest, the vineyard experienced below average, yet relatively dry temps, ensuring a very long ripening period resulting in exceptionally complex fruit flavour.

Their mission is to produce the best red wines South of Rome. Helena is a Nero di Troia is named after Helen of Troy, the face that launched a thousand ships, of the Trojan Wars. In its first vintage, the wine has already lived up to its legendary name and has taken on important stages, including Buckingham Palace.

Purple Hands After Five Wine Co Aglianico 2023

The vineyard was planted in 2011 and is own-rooted, the clone is FP501. The vineyard has been run organically since late mid-2017. After nine days on skins the open fermenter was basket pressed and transferred into a single new French oak hogshead with the balance to one to four year old French oak hogsheads to undergo malolactic fermentation.

Among the many individual components in this blend is the 1915 vintage, reported to be the foundation for the first Grandfather cask.

Only 330 bottles are released in each series, less than 1 barrel.

The 21 Year Old Para Tawny stands alone as a single vintage wine, whereby the most select parcels of 2003 vintage wine are drawn from barrel and bottled as a special celebratory release.Its style therefore has the added complexity of being a reflection of the growing conditions during a singular season. Parcels have matured in old oak hogsheads. Brandy spirit has been used as the fortification element, which along with extensive oxidative ageing, gives rise to roasted nut, praline and spiced aromas and flavours.

Purple Hands Colours of the South Rosso 2021

A blend of negroamaro, montepulciano and aglianico from vineyards in Williamstown and Angaston. Those varieties that end in 'o' do all right in the Barossa, right!? Glossy black cherry and blackberry fruits with just the right amount of Italian attitude coming through. Touches of coal dust, amaro, deep layered spice, perhaps some leathery wisps and a distinct, savoury earth feel to the vinous proceedings. Bright line too, which cuts through that dark-fruited swagger and drives the wine onwards across the palate, finishing savoury and graphitey with deep, dark fruit and compact fine tannins.
