This single vineyard wine comes from one of the oldest Grenache vineyards in McLaren Vale. The wine is a homage to grower Bernard Smart, pictured on the label, and his family. His father, and his brother, planted the oldest part of the vineyard in 1921.

Sourced from 75 - 150 year old vineyards, the fruit fermented separately and then meticulously blended by winemaker Peter Schell to make this Barossa classic. We wanted to do something different with our Grenache, Shiraz blend. Being of Italian heritage, adding Sagrantino seemed like a no-brainer and we hadn't heard of a GSS blend before. When blended together, though, these opposites provide a great foil for each other, creating a complex and intriguing wine. The perfect entertainment and food wine for any occasion.

d'Arenberg Derelict Vineyard Grenache 2018

The Derelict Vineyard 2018 offers aromas of blueberry, plum, liquorice, spice and earth on the nose. The palate is juicy and generous, but with a seam of crunchy tannin and lively acid that adds structure and fresh punch to the wine. All of these big rich fruits wrapped around a graphite almost ferrous like frameworks. This wine can be enjoyed now but undoubtedly a grenache built for time.
